About this speaker

Dr Laura Burke is a medical anthropologist working in health, social inequalities, and the environment. She is the Research Associate on the project ‘Homelessness in the Countryside: A Hidden Crisis, led by Dr Carin Tunaker (University of Kent) and Dr Helen Carr (University of Southampton). The research team is joined by a ‘rural housing task force’ which includes leading national, rural charities and housing providers. Working collaboratively, the group have pooled resources to develop and fund the research, designed to secure evidence showing the extent of the rural housing crisis and what interventions will help tackle the problem.

Laura has a back group working on in human rights and social justice in the UK and Southeast Asia. Alongside this project, Laura’s other research and teaching focus on conflict and violence, reproductive justice, and global health. She is currently based at the University of Kent and Queen Mary University London.
